“How much is a taxi from Quito airport?” is one of the first things travelers search before they fly — and the honest answer is: it depends, which is exactly the problem.
Why the price varies so much
UIO is in Tababela, well outside Quito, so the fare depends on where in the city you’re going, the time of day, traffic, and whether the driver uses a meter at all. Arriving travelers — tired, unfamiliar with the city, often at night — are in the worst position to negotiate. Quotes for the same ride can swing widely, and “airport surcharge” is a common surprise.
Flat rate vs. metered taxi vs. rideshare
- Metered taxi: the final number isn’t known until you arrive, and meters aren’t always used at the airport.
- Rideshare: can be cheaper off-peak but surges at busy times, pickup zones at airports are often restricted, and there’s no one waiting with your name.
