Paying for a Quito Airport Ride: Cash, Card, USD and Tipping

Money logistics are easy to overlook until you’re standing at arrivals working out how to pay. Here’s the quick version for Quito.

Yes, it’s US dollars

Ecuador’s official currency is the US dollar, so prices — including airport transport — are in USD. There’s no currency to exchange if you’re coming from the States, which removes one common arrival headache. Bring small bills; breaking large notes can be hard, especially late at night.

Cash vs. card

• Taxis and many local services are cash-first. Don’t assume a curbside taxi takes cards, and airport ATMs can occasionally be out of cash on late arrivals.
• Rideshare charges your app’s saved card (when pickup is allowed), but surge can make the final amount a surprise.
