United Airlines flight UA1002 is the evening nonstop from Houston George Bush (IAH) to Mariscal Sucre (UIO). A published schedule effective 8 September 2026 through 24 October 2026 lists an 18:05 departure from Houston and a 23:25 arrival in Quito — 11:25pm local. A public flight-status page for 4 October 2026 showed the same scheduled gate arrival, 23:25. From 25 October 2026 the same flight is listed a few minutes later, around 11:30pm, on most days of the week. Confirm the time on united.com before you fly. Schedules move, and a delay out of Houston can push you past midnight.

This is the landing the late-night transfer is built for. You have been in the air more than five hours. Immigration, bags, and a dark highway are still between you and a bed.

Immigration and bags after an 11:25pm arrival

The international hall at this hour is quieter than the afternoon. Fewer flights are on the ground, and fewer staff are at the desks. A quiet hall is not the same thing as a fast hall. One officer and a full 737 can still mean a wait. Keep your passport out. If you are connecting ideas about dinner or a meeting the next morning, let that go until you have the bags.

The belt is the other variable. Even when the aircraft is on time, bags can sit. Do not walk outside to “see about a taxi” and leave someone with the luggage. Stay together until the last bag is on a cart.

Outside, the official taxi area is thinner than it is at 4pm. That is when unsolicited offers get louder, not quieter. Hailing at the curb means a conversation you do not want to have in a second language while you are tired. Walk only to a driver holding your name. The handoff is described in meet and greet at UIO.

Earlier the same evening, American AA833 from Miami typically lands closer to 9pm. If your ticket is the Houston flight, plan for 11:25pm, not for that earlier bank.

The highway into Cumbayá or Quito

UIO is in Tababela. The highway west — Ruta Viva — drops you toward Cumbayá and then climbs into Quito. Around midnight the road is usually moving. A common nighttime run into the city is about 35–45 minutes. Cumbayá, which sits on that valley path, is often closer to 25–35 minutes. A Quito address in mixed daytime traffic is published as about 40–60 minutes, so do not use a rush-hour memory of the airport road to judge this arrival. Wyndham Quito Airport, in Tababela, is typically 10–15 minutes if you are stopping there instead of going into town.

Altitude is real on the first night. If someone in your group feels off, the right move is a slow walk to a car that is already paid for, not a search for the cheapest ride.

A prepaid SUV, not a bargain at the curb

The prepaid rate sits above a hopeful street-taxi quote on purpose. You are buying a licensed, airport-authorized driver, a name sign, flight tracking if UA1002 is late, and a USD price that does not get reopened in the parking lot. App pickup at the airport is uneven. Licensed airport drivers are the product.

Rates: $50 to Wyndham Quito Airport, $75 anywhere in Cumbayá, $100 anywhere in Quito. Maximum 4 passengers in the SUV. Pickup has to be booked at least three days ahead. Write to book@uiotransfers.com if you need to confirm the address or the flight number before you pay.

Enter UA1002 on the booking so the driver follows Houston, not a generic “night flight.” The three fares are on the rates board. Book the transfer while you still have a normal internet connection at home, and keep the confirmation where you can open it with the phone in airplane mode. A wider note on this hour is arriving at UIO late.
