Quito Airport to Wyndham Quito Airport: Do You Need a Car?

Wyndham Quito Airport is the hotel in Tababela next to Mariscal Sucre (UIO). Travelers book it for one reason: the flight is early, late, or both, and they do not want an hour on the highway before they sleep. The question that follows is whether you need a car at all.

You do not need a rental car for a night at this hotel. You do need a ride from the terminal to the door.

How close it actually is

The prepaid transfer is typically 10–15 minutes from arrivals to the hotel. That is the short product on this site. Cumbayá is 25–35 minutes. A Quito address is about 45–60 minutes. The comparison is in how far Quito airport is.

“Next to the airport” is the right description and it is easy to over-read. Ten to fifteen minutes in a car is close beside a drive into the city. It is not a walk from the arrivals curb to a lobby with suitcases, children, or a laptop bag after a red-eye. We are not publishing a walking time or a distance on foot, because that is not how guests with luggage should plan the arrival. If a map app shows you a pedestrian route, treat it as a curiosity, not as the plan.

The $50 rate is only this hotel. A different Wyndham in Quito city — if you have booked one — is the $100 anywhere-in-Quito rate. The names look similar on a confirmation email. The drives are not similar. Check the words “Quito Airport” and the Tababela address before you pay for the transfer.

A rental car is the wrong tool for this hop

Renting a car at UIO makes sense for some longer Ecuador road trips. It does not make sense as the way to reach a hotel a few minutes from the terminal, sleep, and fly again. You would be handling a rental desk while tired, parking at the hotel, and returning the car before the outbound flight. The wider trade-off is in renting a car versus a private transfer.

For this stay, the vehicle you want is a car with a driver for the two short legs: inbound, and back to the terminal when you leave. Round trip is twice the one-way rate, so both directions are $50 + $50 if you add the return when you book.

Some airport hotels run a shuttle of their own. We do not operate that shuttle, and we will not guess the hours, the fare, or whether it meets every flight. Ask Wyndham directly, on a current page or at the hotel, if a shuttle is part of your decision. Shuttle details change. If you want a named driver who is tracking your flight and waiting after midnight, book the transfer. The two can both exist; they are not the same service.

When the $50 SUV is worth booking

The ride is short. The reasons to prepay it are the same reasons people prepay the longer city ride, compressed into a smaller distance.

  • You are landing late. Many US flights reach UIO in the evening or after midnight. Standing outside to sort a car is the part of a 10-minute hop that takes the time. See arriving late.
  • You have bags, kids, or both. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall with your name and helps load the SUV. Meet and greet is the whole ceremony. It is short, and it is the point.
  • You do not want a rental, a rideshare pin, or a fare discussion for a hotel you can nearly see from the airport area.

An official taxi can also cover ten minutes, and sometimes for less money. That is a fair option if the rank is straightforward and you are comfortable with it. The prepaid SUV costs $50 because the driver is licensed and airport-authorized, the price is already paid, and a delay does not restart the clock. We are not arguing the taxi is unsafe. We are describing a different product. The night version of that choice is taxi or Uber from UIO after dark.

If you might leave the hotel

A night at Wyndham Quito Airport is a sleep-and-fly stay. It is a limited base for seeing Quito. If the plan is dinner in the valley or a quieter neighborhood with more to walk to, Cumbayá at $75 is the next ring out. If the plan is Old Town or a city hotel, use the $100 city transfer and accept the longer drive. Staying anywhere in the Tababela and Puembo cluster, not only this Wyndham, is sketched in where to stay near the airport. The $50 fare on this page is specifically Wyndham Quito Airport.

Each luxury SUV takes a maximum of 4 passengers. For 5–8, book a second SUV at twice the rate — $100 for the pair, one way, on this hotel. Book at least three days ahead. Email book@uiotransfers.com if you need the Tababela address confirmed before you pay. Email only.

Book the Wyndham transfer when you book the room. You do not need a car of your own. You need the short ride to be waiting when you walk out of customs.
