Quito Airport to Cumbayá: Transfer Time, the $75 Rate, and the Drive
Cumbayá is the populated valley between Mariscal Sucre (UIO) and Quito. If your hotel confirmation says Cumbayá — or a street in the Valle de Tumbaco that your host calls Cumbayá — you are not booking the city rate, and you are not booking the airport hotel. You are booking the middle hop.
How long the drive takes
From the terminal in Tababela, Cumbayá is typically 25–35 minutes. Both the airport and the valley sit on the eastern side of the metro area, so you are on the highway toward Quito and you stop before the climb into the city. That is why the valley is shorter than a city address (plan about 45–60 minutes for Quito) and longer than Wyndham Quito Airport (typically 10–15 minutes, and only for that Tababela hotel).
The full distance picture is in how far Quito airport is from the city. Traffic still matters. A late-night landing usually moves. A busy afternoon can sit toward the long end of 25–35 minutes. Those figures are for the drive after you have your bags, not from the moment the aircraft parks.
What the $75 rate covers
Anywhere in Cumbayá is $75 prepaid, one way, in a luxury SUV. The fare is for any hotel or address in Cumbayá. It is the valley product: the airport hotel is $50, and any address in Quito city is $100. Putting a Cumbayá hotel on the city rate, or hoping the airport-hotel rate will stretch to the valley, is the mix-up this page is here to prevent.
See the zone page for Quito airport to anywhere in Cumbayá, or compare all three on the rates board. The price is in USD, paid before you fly. It includes the licensed driver, tolls, parking, meet and greet, and flight tracking. A delay on the inbound does not open a new fare.
What the $75 does not include is a second vehicle. Each SUV seats a maximum of 4 passengers, with room for bags. A party of 5–8 books a second SUV at twice the destination rate, so Cumbayá for that larger group is $75 × 2. Child seats and an extra stop, if you need them, are added at checkout. Round trip is twice the one-way rate.
Who should book the valley instead of the city
Cumbayá is the practical base if you want to be close to UIO without sleeping in the airport hotel. Early departures are the obvious case: you are not crossing Quito before dawn. A first night at a slightly lower elevation than the city is the other case. Central Quito is commonly described as about 9,350 feet; the valley sits lower, which some travelers prefer before they go up into town. What that altitude feels like is in altitude in Quito.
The valley is also where a lot of long-stay visitors and local residents actually live: residential streets, restaurants around the central area, a slower evening than the historic center. For what to do once you are there, use the Cumbayá and Tumbaco guide. This page is only the transfer.
If your hotel is in Old Town, La Mariscal, or another Quito neighborhood, do not use this rate. Those addresses are the city hotel transfer. If the property is Wyndham Quito Airport in Tababela, the fare is the airport-hotel transfer, not $75.
How the handoff works
Book at least three days before pickup. The booker will not offer today or the next two days; that lead time is how a licensed, airport-authorized driver is confirmed. Enter the flight number so the driver tracks the inbound, and put the real Cumbayá address in the booking — hotel name plus street, not just “Cumbayá.”
On landing, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name and helps with the bags. You are not hailing at the curb and you are not depending on an app having a driver who can pick up at the terminal that night. If you want the longer comparison, read taxi or Uber from the airport at night and how meet and greet works.
Quito Airport Transfer coordinates the ride; the car is an independent licensed carrier. Questions about an address — whether it is really Cumbayá, or whether it has slipped into Quito or Tumbaco in a way that changes the zone — go to book@uiotransfers.com. Email only.
If Cumbayá is the hotel on your confirmation, the prepaid valley rate is the whole product. Book the Cumbayá transfer before you fly, and keep the confirmation where you can open it without a signal.
